The note my favorite professor ever left me at the end of my personal reflection paper. What an amazing way to begin my Summer Break. I’m so grateful. <3

Finally, I wrote to Ellen Degeneres.

Ever So Dearest Ellen,

How are you today? My name is Abby Lou Manalang, and I am a 22 year old college working student from Hayward, CA. I do not have any questions, but rather a few comments on how you have impacted my mother’s life in a multitude of ways. Briefly, I would like to describe my Mom; Marilou, my mother, is 60 years old aged with wisdom, prevailed struggle, and timeless beauty. She is divorced, but has formed an unconditional love for her 2 dogs and every other animal living in our neighborhood. She is an amazing mother, cook, and couch potato. My Mom, like millions of others, has watched every single episode of your show. The look on her face when your show comes on is very similar to when a kid sees Disneyland for the first time. She is starstruck without fail by your humor and generosity. My Mom does not smile or laugh often, but when I want to see her do such things, it is when she is watching your show. Taking time out of her laborious day to watch your show has become the moment my mother winds down and kicks her feet up to relax. You have inspired my Mom to be happy, effortlessly. Amidst the trials and tribulations my Mom has experienced, you have taught her how to laugh so naturally. To laugh and feel its positive effects because she knows she deserves that much. Words cannot express how grateful I am you decided to have your own show. However, I can try through this email. Please reply so I can show my Mom you know she exists. Take care always Ellen. <3

So today Angelina Jolie had double mastectomy, which is the removal of one’s breasts, to prevent Breast cancer. So instead of praising Angelina on her bravery, men on Twitter decided to ridicule her, even calling her stupid for removing her breasts. For those of you on Tumblr that are attacking Feminists for being delusional about sexism against women and misogyny here’s your fucking proof that sexism and misogyny exists.

Our celebrity obsessed culture may be a joke but breast cancer definitely isn’t - nearly 500,000 people die from it every year. Angelina Jolie’s doctors estimated she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer and a 50% risk of developing ovarian cancer because she carries the common gene mutation that causes both. Her mother died at the age of 56 after a long battle with cancer as well. My own mother had both breast and ovarian cancer within a couple short years and let me tell you, it’s about the least funny thing in the world to watch someone suffer from.

Valuing someone’s body parts you sexualized over their life and humanity goes beyond sexism, it’s sub-human.

Some “men” are such pigs.

Mom, I am almost done with college. I will take you on vacation. Buy you a new home with a big backyard for you to utilize your green thumb and let the dogs run around, and I will make sure you can retire at 65 years old. I love you Ma, just hold on a little while longer.
